You probably know your eating habits.
You might even know your exercise habits.
But do you know your movement habits — the tiny, unconscious things you do just to stand and hold yourself up every day?
Because here’s the truth: standing still is never really still.
Your body is constantly working behind the scenes — balancing weight, adjusting for tension, responding to old habits, and compensating for weakness.
And the way you stand — in queues, at the kitchen counter, or chatting with friends — could be quietly shaping how your body feels.
The Hidden Work of “Stillness”
Most of us have a signature stance — one hip higher, one leg heavier, one foot turned out.
You might:
- Lean on one leg while chatting or cooking
- Stand with one foot turned 45° to the other
- Keep your hands in your pockets, rounding your shoulders
- Sit heavily on one butt cheek when driving
- Collapse into one hip on the sofa each night
It feels natural — it’s your comfort posture.
But comfort doesn’t always mean balanced.
Those repetitive holding patterns can build up over time — tightening one side of the body, overworking certain muscles, and leaving others underused.
Before long, you might notice a dull ache in your hip, a shoulder that always feels tight, or a neck that twinges for no clear reason.
The Forensic Side of Movement
When clients come to me with pain — even something small, like a stiff neck or sore knee — I look at more than just the symptom.
I look at how you stand, move, and hold yourself through your day.
This is what I call forensic movement analysis — gently examining your natural patterns to find the hidden imbalances behind your discomfort.
Once we see what your body is actually doing, we can help it move and balance more evenly.
Sometimes it’s as simple as learning to soften the knees, release a gripped glute, or shift the weight back to the centre of your feet.
What Happens When You Realign
One client recently said:
“I didn’t realise how much I locked my knees and leaned forward — no wonder my back ached! After you showed me how to realign, I feel lighter and pain-free for the first time in years.”
That’s the magic of awareness.
When you understand what your body is doing, it becomes easier to move well — and stay pain-free.
Even if you’re not in pain right now, learning to stand with balance can prevent problems later.
Start Here: The 3-Minute “Stand Well” Reset
Take a few minutes today to notice:
- Are your knees locked or softly bent?
- Is your weight even on both feet?
- Are your shoulders relaxed, not pulling forward?
- Is your head balanced over your spine, not jutting forward?
These micro-adjustments can change how your body feels — instantly.
